FAQ

How can I participate?

You can contact us any time via email, phone, or using our contact form! If we are unable to answer the phone at the moment, please leave a message on our answering machine and we will call you back as soon as possible. We are looking forward to hearing from you!

What should I do if I have to miss a scheduled appointment?

If you can’t make a scheduled appointment, we would kindly ask you to inform us, even on short notice, by either calling or sending an email. We will call you back and try to find an alternative date with you.

How much time should I plan for my appointment?

Our studies typically involve a single appointment in our babylab. This appointment usually takes 45 to 60 minutes in total.

Can I bring older siblings along?

Of course you can bring your older kids along. If possible, it would be great if you let us know in advance, so we can arrange for one of our staff to be available to play with your older kids during the testing.

What happens if my child starts to cry during the testing or does not want to participate?

These are things that are bound to happen sometimes when working with young children. We usually take a short break then to see whether your child calms down again, and then decide together with you whether to give it another try or whether to stop testing.

What happens after my child participated? Do I learn about the results of the study?

For a given study, we usually test between 25 and 30 children. When we are finished collecting data from all children, we pool the data and analyze them as a group without reference to individual children’s data. These analyses can take some time. When we are finished analyzing the data, we will inform all participating families about the results.

What happens to my data?

We will treat all your data strictly confidential. Your contact data will be stored separately from the data collected during the testing, and we will analyze all data without any reference to individual participants  in an anonymous format. You can withdraw your consent to data storage at any time.

How are these studies financed?

The current studies are financed via a grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG) to Sarah Jessen (Project JE 781/3-1 & JE 781/4-1).

Are the studies approved by some official board?

All studies have been approved by the ethics committee of the University of Lübeck.
