Welcome to our homepage about developmental science at the University of Lübeck.
In our projects, we want to learn more about how infants and small children perceive and explore the world around them. We are especially interested in social and emotional development:
How do babys perceive faces? Can babies recognize whether someone is happy or sad? What role do different senses, like seeing, hearing or smelling, play in this?
We answer questions like this in different projects.
Depending on the project, we use different methods, for example behavior observation, where short videos are being recorded and analyzed.
Frequently, parents have to fill our questionnaires regarding the behavior or preferences of their child - after all, they know their child best-
To observe what happens in the brain of our little participants, we use so called electroencephalography (EEG), an established and non-invasive methods. EEG is used world-wide in many projects researching infants. Further information on the methods we use, you can find here.
