What happens during a visit to the baby lab?
The initial contact usually takes place by phone. We will introduce you to one of our studies that might be suitable for you and your child. If you are interested in participating in the study presented, we will arrange an appointment with you here at our baby lab, usually one to two weeks later.
Before your appointment with us, we will send you some questionnaires and kindly ask you to bring them completed to your appointment.
We conduct our studies at the Center for Brain, Behavior, and Metabolism (CBBM) on the campus of the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) and the University of Lübeck. You can find us here. In the foyer, you will be picked up by one of our colleagues.
First, we will show you the facilities, give you time to settle in, and explain the study procedure to you once again in detail. If you have no further questions or uncertainties, the actual study will begin. What happens during the study naturally varies and will be explained to you in detail in each specific case. However, for all studies, you are with your child at all times, and we are always happy to take a break or interrupt the measurement at your request. The measurements themselves usually last only 10–15 minutes, but including arrival, preliminary discussion, and preparation, you should plan for about 60–90 minutes in total.
At the end of the appointment, you and your child will receive a small surprise from us as a thank-you, before we accompany you back to the exit.
We will be happy to inform you about the results once the study is completed!
